‘Recover, Recycle, Reclaim’ – watches from salvage

REC Watches which stands for ‘Recover, Recycle, Reclaim’ is a Denmark based company sells handmade wristwatches made entirely from the parts of Porsches, Ford Mustangs and Mini Coopers. 

Christian Mygh, REC Watches co-founder said, “Most people would just see a pile of metal, a ghost of a Mustang. We see something completely different — the soul of a car and a story that needs to be told.”

Parts are sourced from salvage yards all over the world are used to create these stylish watches. And prices range from USD$345 for the Mini Cooper Collection up to USD$1695 for the 901 Porsche collection. 

Their watches bear the vehicle identification number and year of production. A power dial designed to look like a fuel gauge shows remaining battery life. And the hands, date, and dial numbers are based on the design of the car’s dashboard.

Their collections consist ‘The 901’ Porsche, Mini Cooper – ‘The Cooper’ and ‘The Mark I’ and the Ford Mustang P51 which is their best seller.

Sales Director Thomas Dusinius Kronevald said, “The Mustang watch holds a lot of actual subtle design references to the ‘60s Mustangs. And obviously, the dial comes from a salvaged Mustang.” 

On a trip to Sweden, the REC team found a 1966 Raven Black model that became the basis for a limited edition P51-04 collection of 250.

The company provides a short video documentary to customers about the specific cars that become their watches. 

In 2016, the company did a crowdfunding campaign through Watch delivery began in August of that year and about 6,000 P51 watches have been sold since then, Kronevald said.

The P51 watch is named after the P51 Mustang World War II-era fighter plane, which inspired the name of the popular muscle car. Launched in 1964, Mustang’s styling and performance made it an instant classic.
