An update from BVSF at CARS 2018

bvsfThis year’s CARS event was well attended, with many visiting the BVSF stand. Certainly, there seemed to be a good increase in visitors to the event. Perhaps in part, this was due to the almost guaranteed wall to wall sunshine! Our stand was set up on the Tuesday afternoon and all was ready for the opening of the doors Wednesday morning. 


Joining the BVSF on the stand this year were Colin Gallagher and Luca Marvulli from Retainagroup, there to launch the new BVSF Parts-Check scheme created to put a stop to fraudulent parts return but now offering far more advantages. This attracted a lot of interest from BVSF members and non-members alike, giving BVSF the opportunity to promote the virtues of membership and Colin and Luca the chance to demonstrate how the scheme will work.

Having received so much interest and constructive input at the show the next phase is to fine tune the system before releasing it for sign up by members. The feedback from the trials being undertaken by 3 members has also been very positive and invaluable in the development of the scheme – so watch this space for further important news in the coming weeks. 

Since the event, it has been decided that the BVSF will purchase and hold a stock of the relevant ID stickers to be issued free of charge to the first 10 member companies to come forward who wish to take advantage of the scheme. This will give those companies 500 ID stickers to “start them off” on the road to stopping the fraudulent return of parts by customers which is so rife in our industry.

Members are asked NOT TO apply yet as the official invite will be despatched once all the “fine tuning” is complete and the system is ready for operation.

Over and above this announcement at the CARS event, is confirmation that BVSF has now commissioned and received the first of their own airbag test units prior to further discussions with a vehicle safety company before witnessed video testing takes place. This action requires the input of the Management Committee and therefore will be discussed in next months meeting. We have patiently awaited the first of the Home Office meetings after the new code inception for the “Evaluation Discussion” which sadly still hasn’t been prepared. So, therefore, we are proceeding on the basis of what was decided when BVSF agreed to support the code in its initial guise, that the ban on the sale of tested, provenance known, undeployed airbags would be re-discussed and evaluated. We offered all parties the opportunity of testing “our airbags”, even to the point of supplying them free of charge, yet no-one took us up on this option.

With all this going on in the BVSF, now is the time to join us like the companies that “saw the light” at the CARS event.

Attention will be paid to the way vehicles are being dealt with at the end of life and the complexities of closing material and component loops. Opportunities and challenges which Volvo Cars is facing will be presented including engagement with 3rd parties and increasing pressure from stakeholders.
