e2e supplies ELVs at ITAI Crash Day

Event Sponsor, e2e supplies ELVs at ITAI Crash DayThe ITAI Crash Test and Research Day 2019 at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire on 20th June saw a full programme of crash tests ranging from low-speed, 10mph to dramatic 90mph impacts with a variety of vehicles fitted with telematics devices.

Whilst the car to car impacts were carried out at high speed, the moped tests involved releasing the bikes at speeds varying from 30 to 50 mph into the sides of target cars, whilst one test involved a side impact into a moped and dummy rider at 50 mph. The dummy was biofidelic, with a skeleton and ligaments for the estimation of physical injury.

Attended by Traffic Accident Investigators, Insurers, Police and Engineers, the day was both informative and exciting and the data from the research, to be available in the coming months, will be invaluable across the sectors. As event sponsor for the 5th consecutive year, e2e Total Loss Vehicle Management supplied over 75 end of life vehicles for the research event, supported the ITAI in the preparation of the crash tests and hosted guests with a corporate hospitality marquee.

Event Sponsor, e2e supplies ELVs at ITAI Crash DayOn the low speed crash site, 2019 saw a series of staged accidents, using instrumented vehicles, conducted to gather data on velocity change and demonstrate the tell tale signs which indicate fraudulent insurance claims; two areas of particular interest to the insurance industry. Staged accidents were replicated in six different scenarios with different speeds and configurations.

As part of a research program in conjunction with the National Police Chiefs’ Council  the event also included a series of crashes with identical configurations using the same type of vehicle at varying speeds between 40mph and 90mph. The vehicles were fitted with telematics equipment and Sussex Police used drones to film the crashes. This research will assist the Police in managing road traffic accidents and assessing the speed of impact related to associated damage patterns.

Chair of the ITAI, Jon Stubbs, comments:

Event Sponsor, e2e supplies ELVs at ITAI Crash Day“We are delighted with the success of the crash tests conducted this year which will provide valuable insights and help to educate traffic accident investigators, inform where appropriate on safety and provide latest insights to the various sectors involved with traffic accidents and their impact. Our thanks go to e2e for their continued support of this annual event. We look forward to sharing the research results in due course.”

Neil Joslin, Chief Operating Officer at e2e said:

“This fantastic event can provide critical insights to so many of our clients and the feedback already on this year’s programme has been outstanding. The insurance claims community are particularly keen to see the data from the damage patterns in fraudulent ‘staged’ accidents, which could prove to be a valuable tool in the fight against motor claims fraud. We look forward to this year’s findings and helping to shape next year’s event.”
