As part of ATF Professional’s coverage of CARS 2020, we’ve delved into the numbers behind the must-attend event for vehicle recyclers and dismantlers.
2020 marks eight years since the show’s conception at Hills Salvage in Skelmersdale near Liverpool and it has come a long way since then; welcoming 55 exhibitors, those 800 visitors experienced a dedicated industry trade show for the first time.
But where is CARS today and what does it take to pull together? We take a look at the numbers behind Europe’s leading event for the end of life vehicle recycling industry.
In 2020, the organisers anticipate that more than 1700 visitors will descend on Stoneleigh Park across 3rd and 4th June 2020. With more than 90 exhibitors covering more than 13,000 square metres, visitors to the show will discover a wealth of indoor and outdoor stands exhibiting the latest products and services on the market.
But CARS is much more than just an exhibition, catch one of the 54 speakers over 13 plenary sessions across two conference theatres and hear practical guidance in one of 12 workshops delivered by industry and business experts.
One of CARS’s stand out features is the live demonstration area. In 2018, more than 70 individual demonstrations took place processing 42 end of life vehicles and 30 vehicle engines. All material is provided by and taken away by Derbyshire-based Ward Recycling who also provide the supporting equipment and oversee operations. Speaking ahead of the show, Donald Ward, operations director at Ward said:
“CARS & MRE is an important event to us as a metal recycling and waste management specialist. We collect, process and recycle all kinds of waste here in the UK. Our metals are processed and exported to Turkey and the Far East, as well as UK markets. We’ve continued to support the live demonstration area again this year as we feel it is important to invest in the very latest plant, machinery and equipment available to make our industry more efficient, reduce our emissions and energy use, as well as making life easier for our drivers and operators.”
2020 sees the event supported by 6 headline partners, 17 supporters and the event will also play host to more than 8 individual networking events ranging from customer success meetings, product launches and AGMs. Event organiser, Ali McQueen provided a glimpse into what we can expect at the show:
“This year’s show promises to be the biggest and best yet with more exhibitors, visitors and demonstrations than ever before. It seems like there is a lot of exciting change in the industry at the moment which will provide new opportunities for recyclers and dismantlers so the event has fallen at the perfect time. We’ll shortly be revealing the full conference programme via ATF Professional and I’m particularly looking forward to a session focussing on green parts which will take place on day one.”
