CarTakeBack provides the latest scrap car price update for January 2021
After an unsettled 2020 for us all, the start of 2021 isn’t that much different. With ongoing lockdowns and restrictions across the country, and in a month where SMMT reported the lowest number of new cars registered in January since 1970, CarTakeBack are reporting strong average prices for cars.
Another increase in January means that the CarTakeBack network’s average prices surpassed those seen at any point in 2020!
January’s average value made it the ninth consecutive month to show an increase. Prices were up 5% compared to December and up by 27% compared to January 2020.
Top Cars Scrapped in January
For the seventh consecutive month the Ford Focus was the most common vehicle scrapped by the network.
There’s been no movement in the top cars scrapped compared to last month, again the Ford Focus was closely followed by the Vauxhall Corsa and the Ford Fiesta.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout the UK. The prices are shown as a percentage, using the first month as the base price.
We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, by adjusting the prices to show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
