Electric ELVES training for ATFs now available online f

A challenge faced by every industry over the last year has been how to ensure its people are kept up-to-date with the latest developments and training. ELVES is an organisation that has faced this challenge, having previously rolled out two very successful rounds of its hybrid and electric vehicle awareness training for Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs), in late 2019 and early 2020. Knowing that the demand is still there, even though the ability to train in person has been much reduced, ELVES has worked with its training provider Salvage Wire Ltd, to provide its Electric ELVES training in a new blended format.

Over the last fortnight, information has gone out to all ATFs in the country telling them about the new Electric ELVES training offering. Free of charge to ATFs, the training will be provided through a mix of videos, workbooks, and a live online session with the trainer Andy Latham. ELVES hopes that the new format will enable ATFs to participate, whilst eliminating any current risks associated with meeting in person. It is also hoped that it will open the training to a wider range of participants, for example, staff at smaller ATFs, who would have found leaving their site for a day for in-person training a challenge.

ELVES is offering the training as part of its Electric ELVES programme. The Electric ELVES programme is provided free of charge to all ATFs and, alongside training, provides dismantling information, free collection, and recycling of electric vehicle batteries.

As part of the waste industry, ATFs have continued to operate over the last 12 months, providing vehicle collection and recycling services to the public, local authorities, and An Garda Síochána. The work of ATFs has not stopped, and with this new format, neither does their training. The Electric ELVES programme is helping to ensure that the vehicle recycling industry is prepared for the future.
