This addition to Copart’s comprehensive suite of services will provide their customers with a more cost-effective alternative to independent reports, conveniently performed onsite at one of Copart’s nationwide Operation Centres.

Copart’s ATA/VDA/AQP qualified engineers have completed bespoke Fire Scenes Examination training this month, delivered by private forensic provider, Prometheus Forensic Services.

The week-long training course has provided Copart’s engineers with the additional skills and knowledge to provide investigation reports for their customers’ fire damaged vehicles, helping to identify mechanical or manufacturer defects, or potential signs of arson and fraud.

Utilising practical hands-on examination of actual fire damaged vehicles, the course included accidental and deliberate fires, the chemistry and physics of combustion, electrical theories, scene examination and photography, and report writing.

With COVID highlighting delays in obtaining these types of investigation reports, Copart is excited to launch this new service directly from its own Copart sites, giving their customers quick and convenient access to the information they need to identify potentially fraudulent claims.

Russ England, Engineering Services Manager at Copart said:

“We were delighted to partner with Prometheus Forensic Services to deliver this training to Copart Engineers.

In addition to theoretical training, the practical hands-on elements of the course were hosted at our Newbury Operation Centre, where delegates had the opportunity to examine a selection of vehicles, from complete burn outs to cars with compartment or localised fire damage.”

Attendance of this course provided participating Copart engineers with a UK-AFI (UK Association of Fire Investigators) accreditation, demonstrating their capability to provide vehicle fire scenes examination expertise.

Vehicle fire scenes examination reporting joins a growing list of additional services Copart provide for their customers in addition to the company’s traditional engineering vehicle inspection offering.

Other services Copart offer include Data Cleansing, Flood & Fire Restoration, Vehicle Grading, Owner Connect SMS Service, and complete end-to-end total loss claims management, all of which have been developed to deliver additional value for its customers.

Paula Varley, Account Director at Copart said:

“Copart is proud to be the partner of choice for many UK insurers because we are continuously growing, adapting, and providing them with the technology and services they need to improve the overall total loss claims journey.

This new service offering of fire scenes examination will provide our customers with a more cost-effective and quicker way to identify and investigate potentially fraudulent claims, helping to fight fraud and reduce claim cost, all performed by trusted and certified Copart engineers.”

Simon Smith, Training Coordinator with Prometheus Forensic Services, added:

“We are pleased to be able to offer this bespoke training to Copart and are looking forward to a long and happy relationship between the two companies. Prometheus can also offer a backup advisory and specialist investigation service in the future to further support Copart engineers.“
