Raising sustainability standards: SYNETIQ joins the nation to drive Carbon Literacy Action Day

To mark Carbon Literacy Action Day 2021, and the first day of Glasgow’s COP 26 event, the UK’s leading integrated vehicle salvage, dismantling and recycling company has delivered industry, internal and community-based Carbon Literacy training courses, inspiring participants to create meaningful environmental change.

Raising sustainability standards: SYNETIQ joins the nation to drive Carbon Literacy Action Day p

Five online group training sessions were delivered to a mix of SYNETIQ clients, internal colleagues, industry leaders and the communities around SYNETIQ sites as part of the Carbon Literacy Project’s first-ever Carbon Literacy Action Day. A total of 765 people took part in the mass training event and committed to taking the next step on their sustainability journey.

The training courses are accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, a charity that aims to make carbon literacy learning accessible for all in order to create a low carbon culture.

The two organisations have also collaborated with Auto Trader to develop the Carbon Literacy Automotive Toolkit – designed to accelerate the implementation of carbon literacy across the automotive sector.

Those who took part in SYNETIQ’s Carbon Literacy training must examine the impact of their own CO2 footprint, both in and outside of work, and consider real, tangible ways they can act to create meaningful, lasting change.

As a result of their certification, learners will pledge and take action to reduce their own carbon footprints and use their developed understanding of the climate context to exert influence in their personal and professional lives. Common pledges have included switching home energy tariffs to green suppliers, avoiding fast fashion purchases, and growing fruit and vegetables at home.

As part of its sustainability roadmap announced earlier in the year, ‘Our Road to Tomorrow’, SYNETIQ has already trained 160 colleagues to become certified in carbon literacy – a significant ongoing investment which the business says is driving positive change at all levels of the organisation and across all its sites.
