According to new research by eBay, Bangor, in North Wales, has been named Britain’s car DIY capital with the highest share of car parts buyers.
When comparing the number of buyers for car parts with the size of populations, Bangor emerged as the epicentre of car tinkering and home fixing, with more than 30 per cent of inhabitants having purchased a part for their car last year. Barnstaple, North Devon, and Boston, Lincolnshire followed, according to the North Wales Chronicle.
A car part is sold every second from over 40,000 traders, garages and car businesses.
Exterior parts and accessories proved most popular, with windscreen wipers and washers the most wanted items, followed by side view mirrors and doors, with boot lids and hatches third, according to eBay’s research.
Dr Tony Tong, head of automotive at eBay UK said:
“An increasing number of motorists are looking to do a degree of DIY on their own cars at home, in addition to the car enthusiasts who have always used eBay to seek out rare or unusual parts.
The appeal of finding a great value product and the satisfaction of fitting it yourself is clearly prompting a growing number of motorists to roll their sleeves up and carry out basic tasks themselves – and eBay’s marketplace makes it easy to find the right part for your vehicle.”
The study by eBay showed that 1,919 parts and accessories buyers in the UK this year found 69 per cent were planning to fit them themselves – an increase of more than 32 per cent since 2015.
