BMRA raises over £11,000 for British Heart Foundation

The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA), the trade association representing the £7 billion UK Metal Recycling sector, has raised £11,168 for its President’s charity for 2022, the British Heart Foundation (BHF), thanks to the generosity of its members.

The charity was selected by BMRA President, Susie Burrage OBE, and the amount raised is the proceeds from the raffles and auctions that were held at the BMRA’s Golf Day and Summer Dinner, and its Annual Dinner. In addition, some members who won the bi-monthly Photography Competition donated their winnings to the charity throughout the year.

Ms Burrage was joined by a number of her fellow board members to celebrate the amount. She commented:

“I was inspired to select the British Heart Foundation after I had met a heart surgeon and a cardiologist, who told me about the important work they do. Once again, our members, even in difficult times, have dug deep to help this very worthy cause. We were very happy to be joined by Gary Atyes, our BHF Fundraising Manager, at our Annual Dinner networking event back in November, who was on hand to speak to members about the work of the charity.

I look forward to welcoming our members to the BMRA Golf Day and Summer Dinner at Oulton Hall on Monday 10 July, and later on at the BMRA Annual Dinner, where they can join in the raffles and auctions for 2023’s charity”.

Gary Atyes, Fundraising Manager at the British Heart Foundation, said:

“We are so grateful that BMRA have raised such an incredible amount of money, and want to say a heartfelt thank you to all their colleagues for their fantastic fundraising efforts.

For more than 60 years, we have funded research that has turned ideas that once seemed like ‘science fiction’ into treatments and cures that save lives every day. But millions of people are still waiting for the next breakthrough.

It is only thanks to the generous support of companies like BMRA that we can keep research going and discover the treatments and cures of the future.”

Each year the standing President of the BMRA selects a charity that will receive a donation from the proceeds of raffles and auctions held at BMRA events throughout the year.

The British Heart Foundation is the biggest independent funder of heart and circulatory disease research in the UK. The charity funds research into all heart and circulatory diseases, such as congenital heart disease, stroke and vascular dementia, and their risk factors, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
