ELVES Charges Up: IMI-Accredited EV Dismantling Training Coming in May

ELVES, the Irish End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) compliance scheme, has announced the introduction of the first-ever Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) accredited training programme in Ireland, specifically designed for vehicle dismantlers. The new certification, offered through the Electric ELVES programme and provided by Salvage Wire Ltd, will be available in three different locations in May 2023: Letterkenny, Dundalk, and Athlone.

ELVES Charges Up: IMI-Accredited EV Dismantling Training Coming in May pThe IMI Informed Electric Vehicles Dismantling, and IMI Competent Electric Vehicles Dismantling training courses are open to all Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) in the Republic of Ireland, who can register for free on the Electric ELVES website. The two levels of training for vehicle dismantlers build the knowledge and skills required to dismantle electric and hybrid vehicles safely and efficiently.

Since 2019, Electric ELVES has been offering free electric and hybrid vehicle awareness training to ATFs in Ireland. The new IMI-accredited program builds on this initiative and aims to improve the capabilities of vehicle dismantlers to handle the latest technology in the automotive industry. Electric ELVES will also continue to offer information support, as well as free collection and recycling of electric vehicle batteries from ATFs.

The Electric ELVES programme has been an essential part of the Irish ELV compliance scheme since its inception in 2018. It offers a comprehensive suite of services, including training, awareness, and free battery collection and recycling. The program has been instrumental in driving the transition towards a more sustainable and circular economy in the automotive industry, where end-of-life vehicles and their components are recycled or reused to minimise waste and reduce the environmental impact.

The new IMI-accredited training program is a significant milestone for Electric ELVES and the Irish automotive industry. It is a unique opportunity for vehicle dismantlers to stay ahead of the curve and acquire the necessary skills to handle the latest technology in electric and hybrid vehicles. The certification will also enhance the reputation and competitiveness of ATFs in the industry, providing them with a competitive edge in the rapidly changing automotive landscape.

The IMI Informed Electric Vehicles Dismantling Training and IMI Competent Electric Vehicles Dismantling Training will take place on May 10th in Letterkenny, May 11th in Dundalk, and May 9th in Athlone. Interested parties can register for free on the Electric ELVES website.
