In celebration of World Environment Day, Copart UK is delighted to announce that it has been awarded with a Bronze EcoVadis Medal, further bolstering its extensive range of sustainability accreditations and initiatives.

As part of Copart’s commitment to environmental stewardship, the company proudly hold the ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation, which forms an integral part of its comprehensive suite of ISO standards known as the ‘Super Six.’

In line with its dedication to reducing emissions and promoting sustainability, Copart has actively joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), alongside over 3,000 businesses worldwide. Furthermore, as a Carbon Literate Organisation, Copart has achieved silver-level accreditation and is making significant progress towards attaining gold.

EcoVadis, through its methodology, aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a company’s sustainability management system by examining its policies, actions, and outcomes. Copart underwent a thorough assessment of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, focusing on key areas such as Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

Copart showed how sustainability is integrated into all aspects of its operations and management systems. As a result, Copart has been awarded the bronze medal, placing them among the top 50 percent of companies assessed. Copart is proud of its progress and is actively working towards achieving the silver medal.

Owain joined Volvo Cars in June 2021 to lead Circular Economy in the Global Sustainability Team. The company has committed to being a circular business by 2040 and has financial, recycled content and CO2 based targets for 2025, all of which Owain is working across the company to make happen. Owain previously worked for circular economy consultancy Oakdene Hollins where he advised businesses on evidence led circular economy implementation.

The presentation will cover the work Volvo Cars is doing to achieve 2025 but mainly focus on the transformational work towards 2040 and the business and value chain changes being considered. Attention will be paid to the way vehicles are being dealt with at the end of life and the complexities of closing material and component loops. Opportunities and challenges which Volvo Cars is facing will be presented including engagement with 3rd parties and increasing pressure from stakeholders.
