Car Take Back – Latest update on scrap car prices

According to Car Take Back’s most recent scrap car price update, the scrap car prices for June 2023 experienced a decline of 2% compared to May, resulting in an average value drop of £7. These figures mark the lowest prices observed throughout 2023. The primary reason behind this reduction in prices is attributed to the decrease in the value of scrap metal and catalytic converters.

In June, the average scrap car price reached £320, representing an 11% decrease compared to the prices in June 2022, with a year-on-year drop of £38 to the average value. Nevertheless, the current prices remain above £300, and it’s worth noting that the value of individual cars varies depending on several factors.

Numerous factors influence the scrap value of a car, including the demand for scrap metal and reusable car parts, as well as the car’s make, model, age, weight, condition, and even its location.

Top cars scrapped in June:

June marks the sixth consecutive month where the Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car. In June, the average scrap value of a Ford Focus was £363.

It gets updated monthly, based on the scrap car prices paid at CarTakeBack recycling centres across the UK. Considering that cars come in various shapes and sizes, impacting their scrap value, the provided prices reflect the value of the average car. As a result, this index provides an excellent indication of the fluctuation in scrap car values from one month to another.
