In July, the average value of scrap cars dropped significantly, hitting the lowest point of the year. According to the recent update from Car Take Back, prices fell by 6% compared to June. This decline, taking prices just below £300, is the first time they’ve been this low since February 2022. The main reason for this drop is the continued decrease in the value of both scrap metal and catalytic converters.

The average scrap car price for July settled at £299, marking an 11% decrease from July 2022, which translates to a £35 drop in the average value compared to last year.
In terms of specific car models, the Ford Focus held its position as the most commonly scrapped car for the seventh time in 2023. The average scrap value for a Ford Focus in July was £324, surpassing the overall average for scrapped vehicles by £25.
Among the top five scrapped car models, all of them experienced a drop in average value compared to the previous month. The Ford Fiesta saw the most significant decrease, with a 13% loss, while the Vauxhall Corsa had a more modest drop of only 3%.
According to Car Take Back, the top five scrapped cars in July 2023 were:
Ford Focus (£324)
Vauxhall Corsa (£304)
