Raven Global’s ascent from chance car recycling encounters to a thriving enterprise captivates the journey of CEO Andy Varnas. Initially importing car parts from the UAE, the shift to recycling ELVs in the UK birthed Raven Global in 2012. Evolving from export-oriented operations to a focus on high-value vehicles, the family-run business grew exponentially, now navigating expansion challenges. With a robust team, data-driven strategies, and aspirations for growth, Raven Global’s story unfolds.

Unexpected Origins: From Nicknamed Beginnings to Founding Raven Global
My journey into vehicle recycling began unexpectedly. After graduating from the American University of International Business, I, Audrius Varnas, earned the nickname Andy for the ease of pronunciation. Without prior experience in recycling, I stumbled into the industry by chance. Initially, I dealt in importing car parts from the UAE to Lithuania, catering to wholesale customers in Eastern Europe. However, a revelation struck: sourcing ELVs from the UK, recycling them, and reselling the parts proved more viable. This epiphany led me to relocate my operations to the UK and establish Raven Global in 2012. Initially focused on exporting vehicle parts to Eastern Europe, we later recognised the vast potential within the UK market, prompting a shift towards newer, high-value vehicles. Today, Raven Global thrives as a family-run business, evolving from its origins as an export-oriented recycler.
Growth and Operational Strategies
When Raven Global commenced its operations, it was a fledgling venture with minimal resources and a handful of employees. Initially operating from a compact yard, the company’s growth trajectory has been remarkable. At its inception, the team comprised merely three individuals, dismantling an average of two vehicles daily, primarily focusing on international exports with negligible local sales.
Raven Global has grown substantially, boasting a workforce of 22 proficient employees adept at dismantling eight vehicles per day. The company has significantly amplified its presence in the UK market, processing 200 orders daily for local sales. Moreover, its international outreach has widened, facilitating four monthly export trucks.
Data-Driven Acquisitions & Inventory Optimisation
Raven Global’s strategy of selectively acquiring premium vehicles and supplying high-quality green parts heavily relies on data analysis. The company makes informed purchasing decisions based on real-time market demand, ensuring that only high-demand vehicles or “GOOD BUYS” are acquired. This approach optimises inventory management and minimises the risk of overstocking or acquiring outdated vehicles. To effectively implement its data-driven strategy, Raven Global developed in-house software that provides valuable insights into purchasing decisions. This software is pivotal in identifying slow-moving or obsolete inventory, enabling the company to make strategic stock clearance and scrapping decisions. By constantly monitoring inventory turnover, Raven Global ensures its warehouse remains stocked with the most sought-after vehicles and parts.
Exploring Collaborations with Insurance Companies
When it comes to collaborating with insurance companies, our efforts have been made, but unfortunately, we’ve encountered roadblocks. It appears that insurance companies tend to favour established entities, which puts smaller companies, like ours, at a disadvantage. However, we are actively looking to join networks and remain open to collaborations with insurance companies.
Effective Team Dynamics and Customer Relationships Drive Operational Efficiency
The foundation of our operational efficiency lies in our team dynamics. Our company’s strength is built upon a cohesive, self-driven, loyal, and highly motivated team. Nurturing strong customer relationships is paramount to our success. To achieve this, we utilise specialised software that facilitates seamless communication with our clients, ensuring prompt responses to online queries within minutes. Additionally, all incoming calls are directed to a dedicated call centre, streamlining our customer interaction process and strengthening these vital relationships – team chemistry is crucial.
Expansion Challenges
Raven Global is poised for expansion, with plans to acquire a new yard. However, identifying an appropriate land plot for a recycler yard presents a substantial challenge. The ideal location must meet various criteria, including accessibility and environmental considerations. Additionally, the site should be sufficiently spacious to accommodate our expanding operations and future growth.
