Tony Patsides, who has been the General Manager of Auto Solutions in Stapleford, Nottingham, since its recent change of ownership in April 2023, shares his journey in the motor trade. His vision aims to propel the company towards sustainable growth and excellence in automotive recycling.

Auto Solutions is a well-established, East Midlands based vehicle dismantler, specialising in the collection and recycling of cars, vans, trucks, and motorcycles. We pride ourselves on having clean, modern, authorised treatment facility premises with a constant stock of more than 100 vehicles and a recycling rate of over 95%, sourcing cars from both insurance companies and private individual sellers.
Although new to the vehicle dismantling, depollution, and recycling business, I have significant experience in the motor trade. Roles have been in various customer-facing and management roles for Mann Egerton in Nottingham, Halfords Service Centres in Nottingham and Derby and taking on the Aftersales Manager role for all parts and services at a Mercedes Dealership in Derby for 17 years.
The Transition and Changes

After familiarising myself with the business itself, the sector and talking to the staff, the first thing I implemented was an online inventory system to catalogue all stock we hold along with their current status. This is an app we had developed that runs off handheld devices and updates to a central server, capturing all the vehicle’s specs from an online database and the ability to add high-resolution images, enabling us to catalogue and trace a vehicle in a matter of minutes with no physical paperwork, allowing the team to be more efficient and focus on the running and expansion of our site. We have also started investing in our fleet to give us greater capacity for collections and more stock into the facility.
The Future of Auto Solutions
My immediate goals are to raise awareness of our great facility, further grow our customer base, and improve the data management systems, which will be the platform for the next stage of Auto Solutions.
We will continue to invest further in our team and our machinery, upgrading our facilities to improve efficiency and offer customers a more comprehensive range of services. I am keen to reduce our environmental impact and want to increase the number of vehicles and parts we recycle, improving our current rate of 95%. We will look to improve this by expanding our eBay store and building new partnerships, introducing more innovative ways of recycling so we can get closer to 100% of the vehicle’s parts going onto further use and reducing our contribution to landfill.

Longer-term plans for Auto Solutions are to be an even better-established part of the Automotive Recycling Industry and a name that people primarily associate with great service and trust. We would look to underpin this with affiliation to leading industry associations and add to our accreditations for quality, health, environmental and safety standards within the recycling and waste management industry.
With the increase in the amount of electric vehicles in the market, we are preparing for these to be a regular part of our business by looking at the investment required to ensure our facilities meet all requirements to capture this ever-expanding market.
Today is a step closer to these goals, where we continue to deliver a professional and friendly service, with the aim of constantly moving forward. I look forward to updating you on our progress in a future edition of ATF Professional!
