Christmas is not cancelled at Hamble Pan Disability F.C.

Hamble Pan Disability F.C. enjoyed a festive Christmas Party and disco on Friday December 6th, at the Bitterne Royal British Legion Club, Southampton. An unexpected, late notice loss of the party sponsor had meant it risked cancellation. On hearing the news, Shedfield-based Silverlake Automotive Recycling [Silverlake], who are kit sponsors for the Adult Pan Participation Team at the club, stepped in and funded the celebration for over 100 partygoers aged between eight and 16+ with their parents and carers.

Dave Parsons, Pan Disability Secretary at Hamble Pan Disability F.C., said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Silverlake, firstly for their kit sponsorship and secondly for saving the day by funding the Christmas Party. For many children and young people with disabilities, the chances to go to a Christmas party can be limited, and they can also feel socially anxious at the prospect.  Our football club is a safe place and because we are such a close-knit football family, they feel confident to party and have fun.  It would have been a huge disappointment for everyone if we had needed to cancel.

We believe football should be for all. At Hamble Pan Disability F.C., everyone can feel confident that they won’t be judged for their disabilities and can play in a safe, encouraging environment. Wearing a kit gives our players a sense of pride, belonging and self-worth and none of this would be possible without sponsorship. We are looking forward to a long and rewarding partnership with Silverlake.”

Tom Harvey, Head of Organisation Development at Silverlake, explains:

“We were introduced to Hamble Pan Disability F.C. by a member of staff who has a son with autism who plays for the club. He told us first-hand about the difference it makes to his son’s wellbeing, self-esteem and family life. We were delighted to get involved and committed to supporting the club by sponsoring the team kit. As for the Christmas party, we just knew we had to make that happen. This club makes football accessible to all in our community, and we believe in their goal and are proud to be able to support their passion.”

Hamble Pan Disability F.C. is the biggest disability team on the South Coast, with eight teams and 98 players ranging in age from eight to 52.
