The average scrap car price for 2024 fell from the highs of previous years. In comparison:

⦁ 2021: Annual average exceeded £300.
⦁ 2020: Average stood at £160.

Several factors influence scrap car values, including the global demand for scrap metals, the vehicle’s make, model, condition, location, and the availability of reusable parts. These variables fluctuate over time, making it challenging to predict how prices might evolve in 2025.

Age of Scrapped Cars

The average age of scrapped vehicles in 2024 was 17 years, aligning with the Ford Focus lifecycle, the most popular car sold 17 years ago. This trend highlights the longevity of vehicles before reaching end-of-life stages.

Most Scrapped Colours

Silver emerged as the most frequently scrapped car colour in 2024, followed by blue and black. The increasing popularity of grey shades in the 2000s is evident in its rank, while red and white trailed behind.

Fuel Types of Scrapped Cars

Petrol vehicles dominated the scrap market, comprising 60% of scrapped cars, with diesel accounting for 39%. Hybrid and electric vehicles made up a mere 1%, reflecting their relatively recent emergence in the automotive market.
