The Hampshire Limited Report 2025 is part of a regional series of business analysis by UK county. The initiative seeks to highlight and celebrate the county’s most successful privately owned businesses and recognise their contribution to the region and wider UK economy. In analysing financial performance, scale and contribution to the regional economy, Grant Thornton looked at two core metrics over three years: growth in turnover and average EBITDA (earnings before interest, depreciation and amortisation) margin.

Silverlake is a leading vehicle recycling centre in the UK. The company specialises in processing end-of-life vehicles at its Authorised Treatment Facility in Southampton, recovering approximately 96.7% of each vehicle for reuse or recycling. This includes providing quality graded, warranty assured, reclaimed automotive parts, offering the motor trade and motoring consumer cost-effective, environmentally friendly alternatives to new components.

The company’s contributions to the regional economy are substantial. Silverlake employs over 160 local staff, with 73% residing within a 10-mile radius of the facility.  Recent expansion plans include creating over 60 new jobs, further bolstering local employment. Beyond job creation, Silverlake actively supports the community by engaging with over 25 local charities and emergency services, such as the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, to which it provides salvage vehicles for training exercises and the use of its facility. A similar arrangement is in place with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The company sponsors the Eastleigh F.C. stadium and works with the club on joint community initiatives, helping to raise funds and make football accessible to all. Silverlake’s U-Donate-a-Car charity initiative enables vehicle owners to easily donate proceeds from the sale of their vehicles to local charities, promoting both environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Nigel Le Bas, Corporate Finance Advisory Director at Grant Thornton UK, presenting Silverlake with the award, said:

“This win for Silverlake Garage (Motor Salvage) Limited signifies a remarkable achievement. Featuring at 38 in the Top 50 companies listed in the Hampshire Limited Report 2025 by average EBITDA margin, not only showcases their operational excellence but also serves as a benchmark for further growth and development, inspiring the company to continue striving for success and innovation in the motor salvage sector.”

Allen Prebble, managing director – Silverlake Automotive Recycling, said:

“My thanks to Grant Thornton UK for this inspiring county initiative, and congratulations to the companies that featured in the Top 50. I am incredibly humbled by this recognition for Silverlake and the achievements of our fantastic team. We have been based in Hampshire for 79 years, and we are proud to be a major force supporting the county’s economy. I would like to thank every member of the Silverlake team for their hard work and commitment, which has seen our business grow and thrive. We continue to invest in our people, our infrastructure and our facility, future-proofing and equipping the business to safely and effectively manage the waste produced by end-of-life vehicles however they are powered, and to reduce carbon emissions with our supply of quality graded, warranty-assured, reclaimed parts to the motor trade and motoring consumer. Protecting the environment and giving back to the region that has supported our growth are huge drivers for our business and will continue to underpin our success.”
