Ben Responds to Spring Statement: Concerns Over NHS Abolition and Welfare Cuts
Following the Government’s recent Spring Statement, Ben’s Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Clift, has voiced serious concerns about the implications of tighter public spending, particularly the £5bn welfare cuts and the abolition of NHS England. Commenting on the Government’s Spring Statement, Rachel Clift, Ben’s Chief Executive Officer, said:
Rachel Clift – Ben
“The recent Spring Statement announces tighter public funding with £5bn in welfare cuts and the abolition of NHS England. As a health & wellbeing charity, we have concerns about the abolition of NHS England. What isn’t clear is the government’s plan to fill the gap in the current role of NHS England which strives to provide high-quality healthcare for all. We will be keeping a watchful eye on this announcement, as this could affect NHS services and continue to increase what is already a bleak picture of health inequalities in the UK. The Government’s proposed budget cuts to welfare and disability benefits is likely to be worrying for those who rely on this support as it could have a significant impact on their life and, in turn, their health and wellbeing. In light of this news, we want to make sure that everyone who works, or has ever worked, in the automotive industry, knows that Ben is here for them. If you’re worried about the impact of these changes, Ben can help you, with a listening ear, and we can provide information, advice and guidance. If you’re specifically concerned about the affect these welfare changes might have on you and your family, Ben has trained case managers who can help people to better understand and maximise benefit entitlements, as well as be there to support those who need to consider their future employability. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with our free and confidential Helpline today if you are worried about these recent government announcements or any aspect of your physical or mental health and wellbeing.”
