ICBR 2025 returns to the vibrant port city of Valencia, Spain, on September 10 – 12, and invites you to join us to celebrate our 30th anniversary of bringing together, first the battery recycling industry, and now the entire battery circular economy community.

The International Congress for Battery Recycling remains the most relevant platform for industry professionals to exchange knowledge, showcase innovation, and shape the future of battery re-use, repurposing, remanufacturing and recycling. This milestone edition will take place at the Valencia Conference Centre.

The program, curated by the International Steering Committee of renowned industry experts, is being designed to ensure ICBR 2025 continues to be the leading forum for the latest industry insights and in-depth discussion.

Key themes will include battery manufacturing and secondary material outlook, competitiveness and economic models for recycling various battery technologies, and the impact of evolving regulations (delegated acts, black mass, and more).

Workshops: This year, we are happy to offer two exclusive workshops on “Safe storage, transport and management of lithium batteries” and “PFAS emissions during battery recycling”.

Test Drives: Levante Wagen / Audi Centre Valencia is offering test drives with the following vehicles Audi, VW, Skoda, Cupra, an exciting way to experience innovation in motion.

Site Visit: Delegates will benefit from a rare opportunity to tour the Sarpi Veolia Constanti waste-to-energy facility in Tarragona, gaining real-world insight into industrial-scale recovery processes.

The exhibition is already close to full capacity, with global companies and organisations eager to showcase their latest products and services.

More than 600 delegates are once again expected, representing the full industry value chain: from mining, battery manufacturing and recycling, and collection systems, to OEMs, policymakers, service providers, and professionals in repair, refurbishment, and remanufacturing.

Head of Circular Economy at Volvo Cars

Owain joined Volvo Cars in June 2021 to lead Circular Economy in the Global Sustainability Team. The company has committed to being a circular business by 2040 and has financial, recycled content and CO2 based targets for 2025, all of which Owain is working across the company to make happen. Owain previously worked for circular economy consultancy Oakdene Hollins where he advised businesses on evidence led circular economy implementation. 

Turning into a circular business and the importance of vehicle reuse and recycling.

The presentation will cover the work Volvo Cars is doing to achieve 2025 but mainly focus on the transformational work towards 2040 and the business and value chain changes being considered. Attention will be paid to the way vehicles are being dealt with at the end of life and the complexities of closing material and component loops. Opportunities and challenges which Volvo Cars is facing will be presented including engagement with 3rd parties and increasing pressure from stakeholders.
