Last month, LKQ Europe announced the launch of LKQ SYNETIQ, a strategic joint venture with SYNETIQ Ltd., the UK’s leading vehicle dismantler. The partnership combines SYNETIQ’s industry-leading dismantling capabilities with LKQ’s extensive distribution network, delivering new solutions to support sustainable, cost-effective, and compliant vehicle repairs. They outline how the partnership serves as a cornerstone of its growing Europe-wide salvage strategy.
SYNETIQ processes more than 27,000 vehicles annually across four UK sites. By integrating this expertise with LKQ’s market reach, LKQ SYNETIQ will increase the availability of aftermarket, certified remanufactured, and quality-assured recycled parts to customers across the UK and Ireland.
Meeting Industry Challenges
The joint venture addresses key industry shifts, including:
- Stricter EU regulations such as Fit-for-55 and End-of-Life Vehicle directives
- Increasing complexity in vehicle repairs, particularly for electric and hybrid models
- Rising demand from customers and insurers for greener repair solutions
- Restricted access to certain OEM parts in the independent aftermarket
Customer Benefits
Through LKQ SYNETIQ, customers will gain:
- Greater choice in sustainable parts sourcing
- Improved access to OEM parts previously unavailable to independents
- Dedicated solutions for EV and hybrid repairs
- Opportunities to reduce repair-related carbon footprints while improving profitability
Leadership and Expansion
The venture will be co-led by Annick Jourdenais, Senior Project Director for Salvage at LKQ Europe, and Michael Hill from SYNETIQ’s dismantling operations, with strategic oversight from Magnus Tagesson, CEO of LKQ Atracco.
Following the UK and Ireland launch, LKQ Europe plans to expand the salvage model to additional European markets, aligning with its broader circular economy strategy.
Beyond Compliance
The initiative positions LKQ Europe ahead of the evolving regulatory landscape, delivering genuine market choice while driving investment into the UK salvage sector. This supports the long-term growth of the automotive circular economy and reinforces LKQ’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
