CarTakeBack data shows the highest UK scrap car prices are currently in Northern Ireland, led by Enniskillen (£333) and Ballymena (£315), with strong hotspots in Suffolk (Bury St Edmunds £442), Cambridgeshire (Wisbech £386), central Scotland and Pontypridd in Wales. For recyclers, location, vehicle size, brand and age all shape achievable ELV values.

Getting the best possible deal matters for most transactions, and end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) are no exception. With average UK scrap car prices showing no major gains in recent months, CarTakeBack has used its national recycling network data to pinpoint where in the country older vehicles are currently achieving the highest returns.
As one of the UK’s only scrap car recycling networks with truly nationwide coverage, CarTakeBack has analysed prices paid over the last six months across the UK. To focus on genuine scrap vehicles destined for recycling, the company removed all cars under 10 years old from its dataset. That matters because the average UK scrap car is 17 years old, and younger vehicles can often be resold or repaired rather than fully recycled.
Regional hotspots – Northern Ireland takes the lead
The analysis reveals clear regional hotspots. The top-paying areas are mainly in Northern Ireland, the South of England and central Scotland, with three of the UK’s home nations represented in the top ten, but Northern Ireland firmly taking the lead. It claims five of the top ten places for average prices, and four of the top five regions overall.

In England, Suffolk is the first county to appear in the top ten for cars over 10 years old, ranked third overall. Prices there range from £154 in Bungay to an impressive £442 in Bury St Edmunds, which is also the highest town- or city-level average in the whole dataset. Buckinghamshire sits eighth in the regional list, with consistently strong pricing and four towns achieving average scrap values of over £250, the highest being Great Missenden at £277. Cambridgeshire takes the final top-ten place, with Wisbech leading the county on £386.

Which vehicles are being scrapped?
The most frequently scrapped vehicle makes mirror the historic UK sales mix. Ford tops the list, closely followed by Vauxhall, with Peugeot and Citroën in third and fourth places and Volkswagen completing the top five. The prevalence of these brands in the UK car parc naturally carries through into ELV flows and recycling volumes.
For motorists, the data is a reminder that location can make a noticeable difference to the offer they receive for an older vehicle. For recyclers, it underlines that while geography is a key factor in pricing, it is not the only one: vehicle size, brand and age all influence the final value. And as the town and city data across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland shows, there are still strong prices to be found right across the UK.
