ASM Auto Recycling shows how an ATF can turn sustainability into measurable community value, generating £5.8m in social impact last year through local employment, staff training, and direct support for town projects. Its work with Thame Town Council, Plastic Free Thame and local groups embeds recycling expertise in schools, businesses and neighbourhood initiatives.

ASM Auto Recycling is showing how an ATF can combine strong commercial performance with real community impact, generating £5.8 million in social value last year through local jobs, staff development and direct support for neighbourhood projects.
ASM Auto Recycling has long championed a mission to deliver cost-effective, environmentally responsible solutions for end-of-life vehicles and parts. Deeply rooted in the community, the Oxfordshire-based company is not only committed to sustainable operations but also continually seeks new ways to support and uplift the people and places around it, an ambition set to grow even further in 2026.
Recognised as Sustainable Business of the Year by Enterprise Oxfordshire, a Bronze Carbon Literacy Organisation, and a FORS Gold fleet operator, ASM Auto Recycling has become a leading example of what a modern, community-focused, environmentally conscious business can achieve. In the past year alone, the company generated an impressive £5.8 million in social value through local employment, staff training and development, and direct community support.
Community involvement has always been woven into the fabric of the business. From sponsoring town events and fundraising for local causes to providing paid work placements for local college students, ASM consistently invests in the wellbeing and future of its neighbours. Most recently, the company has joined forces with their local Thame Town Council and their Environmental Project Officer to amplify sustainability messaging across the region.
ASM is playing an active role as part of the steering group for the Plastic Free Thame campaign, and the company is helping guide efforts to reduce reliance on polluting single-use plastics. It is also a member of the Business Sustainability Champions Awards, encouraging collaboration among local organisations on issues ranging from air quality and circularity to sustainable energy and infrastructure. ASM’s early involvement helped shape the awards into a platform that not only reflects its own environmental aspirations but motivates the wider community to pursue a cleaner, healthier place to live and work.
Beyond these well-established partnerships, ASM is increasingly focusing on supporting other local businesses, reflected in ASM’s involvement in the new Sustainable Procurement Group, where local businesses are coming together to share best practice, pool resources, buy smarter, reduce costs, and spark further collaboration. The group is quickly becoming a forum for practical, community-led climate action. An approach that aligns closely with ASM’s belief that sustainable change is most powerful when businesses support one another.
Becky Reid, Environmental Project Officer, Thame Town Council, said:
“ASM’s involvement in the Thame Sustainability Awards is a powerful example of how businesses can make a real difference in their community. By helping to shape the awards and engaging so practically and generously with the community – both in time and financial support – ASM is leading the way locally. Annabel Nicholls, Environmental & Sustainability Co-Ordinator, has played a pivotal role in this work, showing how investment by businesses in dedicated internal roles can create a ripple effect that extends far beyond their own organisation. Their commitment not only strengthens Thame’s sustainability efforts but also sets a real-life example, blazing a trail for other businesses to follow.”
ASM’s commitment to engagement extends beyond businesses and councils: the company has opened its doors to local community groups, including Girlguiding Rainbows, offering hands-on opportunities to learn about recycling, reuse, and the often-overlooked waste streams within their own town. By sharing its expertise with the next generation, ASM is helping inspire lifelong environmental awareness and nurturing the future sustainability leaders.

Annabel Nicholls, Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator, said:
“My highlight for 2025 is, of course, winning the Environmentally Sustainable Business of the Year award. It’s also been delivering carbon literacy training – it’s been amazing to see the growing understanding as to why the company cares so much about holistic sustainability. It’s easy to go about things with a business-as-usual mindset, but that’s no longer respectable. True sustainability must be a core business strategy. One that can open new revenue streams, strengthen supply chain resilience, and help meet tightening regulatory and ESG requirements, all whilst doing better for our team, better for our community, and better for our planet.”
2026 is looking bright for ASM, with plans to continue on their carbon literacy journey, decarbonising their fleet and offices, and fostering new relationships with local groups to mutually support the community.
