Baled car falls off Lorry

baled carLast month a crushed car fell off a transporter. According to BBC news, ‘the incident took place near the M1 in Nottinghamshire.

It happened on the Stapleford and Sandiacre roundabout near J25 of the motorway at about 6.25am.

Highways England told the BBC the driver of the transporter may not have been aware it had fallen off.

One lane on the roundabout was closed, causing delays during morning rush hour on the approaches and between J26 and J25 on the M1.’

We asked Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for some feedback regarding the importance of securing scrap vehicles onto transporters. DVSA Enforcement Policy Manager Mark Horton said, “DVSA’s priority is protecting everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles.

“Making sure a vehicle’s load is secured is as important as making sure the vehicle itself is safe to drive. That’s why DVSA has published detailed and comprehensive guidance for drivers and operators about load security.

“DVSA won’t hesitate to take the strongest possible action against drivers and operators who don’t make sure their load is secured.”

Although not an everyday occurence, this does act as a reminder that we should always endeavour to secure any vehicle or waste.
