It’s that time of year again where the presence of the white-bearded man, clad in red is crucial in gaining the excitement of all in the build-up to Christmas Day.
Roger told us that he has so far been involved in two events where he has masqueraded as ‘St. Nick’. The first took place at Evegate Business Centre in Ashford, Kent (the previous address of the BVSF office), at their Christmas Fair on 30th November, where he saw in excess of 100 children, all of whom received the obligatory gift. All money raised was donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust. The second was located at a nearby infant and junior school where all students, including two of his grandchildren, got to meet Santa.
He has yet to take part in one more escapade, which is due to take place the week before Christmas in the village where he and his wife, Heather live. Roger told us that this particular event wasn’t planned but due to the response and demand he has received for being a very convincing Father Christmas, it was an opportunity not to be missed. Roger and his wife have organised the final event themselves, with a PA system, lights and Santa’s sleigh, all of which will be pulled along behind a pickup truck driven by Heather.
We asked if he would do it again next year and he told us that it would most probably be on the cards. He said that it has been an enjoyable experience meeting all those who came along.
As for the beard, another year’s growth? We shall have to wait and see!
