According to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), since a recent merger of the two largest scrap metal recyclers in the UK they have found that some businesses could be worse off when dealing their metal recycling services.
European Metal Recycling Limited (EMR) purchased Metal & Waste Recycling Limited (MWR). these being the two main companies offering to purchase waste scrap metal and shred scrap metal in the area around and to the north of London. Following the deal, the merged company will face limited competition from other metal recyclers in this area.
The CMA concern is that this merger could lead to a reduction in choice, price, quality and service to customers.
An in-depth investigation of the merger is being investigated unless EMR offers acceptable undertakings to address competition concerns.
