Recycling Lives completes acquisition of MWR

Recycling Lives completes acquisition of MWRRecycling Lives has completed the acquisition of Metal & Waste Recycling Ltd (MWR).

Recycling Lives have now taken over the majority of MWR’s sites and operations, adding to their 12 sites across England and Scotland and almost doubling their national footprint and operating capacity. MWR is also a nationwide metal recycler.

The acquisition follows a process by the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA), which had intervened in 2017 following the purchase of MWR by European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR). An investigation found the acquisition represented a “substantial lessening of competition” and required the business was put up for sale.

Recycling Lives now own MWR’s Hitchin fragmentiser site and seven other facilities across the South East, North East, Midlands and South Wales. EMR has retained two MWR sites in London.

William Fletcher, Chief Executive of Recycling Lives, said: “We’re excited to have completed this acquisition as part of our ongoing growth strategy.

“MWR has a long and successful history which will provide a solid foundation for our future together. We’re looking forward to working with its team and finding ways to improve one another’s businesses.”

Recycling Lives has established itself as a reputable leader in the industry following rapid expansion in recent years. The business grew turnover and EBITDA by 63% and 71% to £75m and £10.8m, respectively, in 2017/18. Last year Recycling Lives secured investment from private equity firm Three Hills Capital Partners to further accelerate growth.

Their commercial operations support the Recycling Lives charity and social enterprise, which deliver programmes to rehabilitate offenders, support the homeless and redistribute surplus food to communities.
