“It’s just a battery; what is the problem? And my mate who works for an electric company says that anything under 1000 volts is not high voltage.”

All of the above is true when you are working in the electricity supply industry, however, they understand the risks and utilise very strong processes, safety protocols and the use of PPE and tools to keep themselves and their businesses safe.

UN ECE-R100 outlines safety protocols for electric and hybrid vehicles, and one of these protocols is that voltage between 60 volts DC and 1500 volts DC is deemed to be high voltage when applied to the automotive industry – why these values? An electric shock between 70 and 90 volts DC and 0.5 Amps is enough to stop your heart; the Renault Kangoo Electric battery is rated at 400 volts and 300 Amps.

The volume of these vehicles on the road is increasing rapidly, vehicles are involved in accidents, and along with older hybrid vehicles are coming into salvage and recycling yards in greater volumes.

Join the Salvage Wire team at CARS 2021 and see first-hand as we demonstrate how to safely shut down a high voltage vehicle and remove the high voltage battery, learn about the risks inherent with these vehicles, the safety protocols, personal protective equipment and tools required to complete this operation safely and how to store & dispose of the high voltage battery.

Your questions will be answered as you watch, you can also learn about future training options and receive discounts on high voltage tools and PPE.
