Silverlake prioritises sustainability

Working to exacting standards that see it exceed the 95% recycling requirement for an end-of-life vehicle, as regulated by the Environment Agency, Silverlake Automotive Recycling [Silverlake] has reinforced its environmental management processes and commitments with certification to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

As an Authorised Treatment Facility and an automotive recycler for 75 years, the company prioritises sustainability. Solar panels, automatic sensor lighting and rainwater harvest systems help to offset its carbon footprint at an operational level.  Investment in environmental controls also reduces visual and noise pollution at the company’s 10-acre site in Shedfield, Southampton, respecting the surrounding community and wildlife.

Transport and logistics plan and optimise the routes taken by the company’s fleet of 25 recovery trucks in order to reduce CO2 emissions. Additionally, following investment in training, 75% of Silverlake’s drivers hold C+E licences, permitting the use of the spec lifts fitted on its recovery trucks to tow an extra vehicle. This means one truck can compliantly collect eight cars rather than seven, improving efficiency and reducing overall fleet emissions. The company is a VRAC certified supplier of recycled parts delivering nationwide; and the delivery fleet is in the process of being updated with electric vans to further reduce its carbon footprint.

Silverlake has also been certified to ISO 27001 Information Security Management System and ISO 9001 Quality Management System. Maintaining the highest standards in information security is critical to give customers and business partners peace of mind, and the ISO 27001 accreditation validates existing business processes. Quality is at the heart of the Silverlake culture and its processes, which are integral to its service delivery, required no changes to merit the ISO 9001 certification.

Joshua Lochlan, Quality and Technical Manager, explains:

“Achieving ISO 27001, 14001, & 9001 all demonstrate our commitment to continual improvement and ensuring the business continues to operate sustainably.

Attaining these certificates supports our strategic plans for expansion of the business and further development of our people and systems to consistently deliver service excellence.

Our commitment to IT Security is acknowledged by our customers’ trust; our environmental commitment is demonstrated by our pollution reducing actions, and our commitment to quality remains second to none.”
