What to expect at CARS

CARS show

As we approach the Complete Auto Recycling Show & Metals Recycling Event, we take a closer look at what’s in store for visitors ahead of the 2018 show. And, with a record number of exhibitors, visitors and speakers in attendance, CARS & MRE 2018 is jam packed with activities and things to do across the two days.

This month, we focus on the 2018 conference and seminar programme.

Headlining the CARS theatre on the opening day of the show will be Artemis Hatzi-Hull, Director General for end of life vehicles and batteries at the European Commission. Artemis will look at the future of the vehicle dismantling industry within Europe, while assessing the existing challenges and planned actions for the change of the ELV directive.

Artemis will be joined by Janet Kes, of Dutch dismantler, ARN Europe who will discuss the European Market and Chad Counselman, from US operator, Counselman Autos offering a stateside perspective.

Speaking in the MRE theatre will be the London Metal Exchange, who, with 140 years in the industry, will discuss the current activities of the LME. As the world centre for metals trading, they are uniquely positioned to offer their insight and market observances.

The international theme is supported by the Department for International Trade who will present the services and materials available to support UK metals exporters.

The Government’s 2040 ban on new diesel and petrol cars presents a new wave of challenges and opportunities for the ELV dismantling and recycling sector. The opening session will assess the new types of materials, technologies and parts that will be used in the makeup of cars in the near future.

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles will provide an overview of the latest low emission options and show us the practical path to LEVs, providing visitors with a picture of what the car market could look like in ten years.

Dr Stafford Lloyd from Riversimple, will look at Hydrogen vehicles and the future of sustainable mobility. Their pioneering two seater vehicle, the RASA, is one of the leading lights of the commercial hydrogen vehicle market.

In addition to conference sessions, visitors can attend small workshops in The Skills Lab, hosted by dismantling experts Salvage Wire. These short seminars are designed to spread awareness of best practice in relation to some of the more hazardous and difficult to dismantle items. Sessions include; safe removal and storage of batteries, advanced parts and structures, latest vehicle technology and hybrid and electric vehicles.

Something brand new for 2018, and a must attend for all company directors, is the Business Doctors Surgery. Join one of the pre-arranged sessions or book a one on one to hear advice and guidance from experts in SME growth.

The Business Doctors specialise in hands on support for small and medium sized businesses and their insights and anecdotes are guaranteed to give attendees food for thought. Sessions include ‘Value Builder’ & ‘Breaking Big’ – perfect for those looking to build the value and grow their business.
